Grieving A Loss

Grief is a natural and normal reaction to loss. You must grieve before you can heal, and everyone grieves differently. Grief can involve a wide range of emotions ranging from deep sadness and anger to feelings of numbness and confusion.  Even surprising emotions are normal. Some people grieve for a longer time, and some people grieve for a shorter time. There’s no right or wrong way to grieve. Don’t be pressured by others’ ideas of how you “should” or “have to” be. Common reactions to loss include:

Shock and disbelief
Anger or resentment
Guilt
Fear or anxiety
Deep sadness
Physical problems
Hope and personal growth

How can I help the grieving process?
Express your feelings and thoughts by talking, crying, writing, or physical activity.

Reach out to people you trust. Look for people who accept your feelings and thoughts, no matter what they are. Often people want to help but don’t know how, so tell them what you need.

Use rituals to honor the memory of your loved one and to help accept the loss.

Look to your faith.

Think about helping others.
